MESH Radio Modules - REALMESH™ Radios
The major benefit of a REALMESH™ network, is a greater opportunity to get the signals through to their intended end point. MESH is an acronym for Multi-point Enhanced Signal Handling. The "Enhanced" result is achieved because every radio on the network is a repeater for every other radio’s signals while still acting as a transceiver itself. At the same time, each radio can be connected to analog or digital devices for process control and monitoring functions.
The REALMESH™ radio is a standard FCC approved radio which employs a patented technique to yield FCC approved REALMESH™ radios.
Because each REALMESH™ radio dynamically changes its routing table based on signal strength of surrounding radios, systems employing REALMESH™ technology are constantly at peak performance.
One result of the self-healing and self-configuration properties of REALMESH™ radios is the ability to use lower power radios to accomplish the same signal handling objectives. Another is the ability to “dynamically re-route” around obstacles which might make other radios completely unable to function.
We like to say this is the “end point” of radio function development, all other things being equal. This unique ability to MESH, allows REALMESH™ radios to be far superior in many ways, to the older technology transceiver and repeater scenario.
REALMESH™ radios can be battery powered or line powered and come in 1mW and 10mW versions. In clear line of sight testing, the 1mW radio has achieved 100 yards while the 10mW radio can go a half mile or so.

REALMESH™ auto re-routes message due to signal blocking on original path, thus, maximizing signal success opportunity.
| If we visualize three radios configured in a triangle pattern with radios A, B and C at each corner, and we place an obstruction between “origin point” A and “target point” B, the REALMESH™ radio at point C would receive and repeat the “origin point” A signal around the obstruction to “target point” B.
With any other radio type, the obstruction would make that A-B communication impossible to accomplish and render the system useless.
Thus, we say REALMESH™ has a “healing” effect on the network, as it compensates and “heals” a lot of dead spots which would stifle other topologies.
LOCAL CONNECTIVITY
As with competitor transceiver and repeater systems, a REALMESH™ radio can have a local analog or digital device connected to it, thereby allowing a level of monitor and even control in an industrial process. When you factor in the REALMESH™ radio’s ability to reconfigure the network on the fly in order to get the signal through, it is easy to see why the REALMESH™ function is the best option.
REALMESH™ AND COMPOST APPLICATIONS
Since we can handle A to D conversion on the fly, we can invoke REALMESH™ using a battery powered radio, to transmit the signals back to the control computer, using our BioMESH board and system. With this analog input, we support digital output commands to turn fans on and off to maintain adequate temperatures within the compost piles and windrows.

The above diagram shows an end view of three Windrows. The blue tops represent the housing for our REALMESH™ radios mounted atop stainless steel temperature probes. Each Windrow has two REALMESH™ radios in the sides and one protruding from the top of the pile.
Compost absorbs radio signals like a dry sponge absorbs water, thereby killing other radios’ signals. Without REALMESH™ radios, success in this scenario is virtually impossible to achieve. With other radios, there is no way the side radios could communicate with the base station located remote from the compost windrows because no “line of sight” can be established.
However, with REALMESH™, each radio is NOT required to have line of sight to the base station. Instead, each radio needs only reach its nearest neighbor, which in turn, repeats the signal to another neighbor, etc. This process continues until the base station is reached by the nearest radio to it. |
REALMESH™ AND INDUSTRIAL OR WATER AND WASTEWATER APPLICATIONS
With our SCADAMESH™ 424 board, we support a PLC on a chip, a processor, memory, and a 10mW REALMESH™ radio. This allows us to provide process control or just plain monitoring in suitable applications in the industrial world as well as the water and wastewater worlds.
REALMESH™ radios can be added to any number of board configurations, in each case yielding a product which can be used for control and monitoring. |
